Sticky Presentations bite size article: Timeline Alive Part 1

Timeline Alive Part 1

Have you sometimes wondered if there are alternative methods of presenting timeline based information?

Timelines can be quite a chore to present if they span across many years. There are many effective methods to present timeline based information. Before selecting a method, it is always a good practice to be clear about the objectives as to why we need to present the timeline. A clear objective will allow us to narrow down the otherwise complex timeline into a more focused and specific area of the overall timeline.

Next is to collate key information for the presentation slides. Depending on the nature of your timeline, these can be event dates, short description of activities, charts or data showing achievements, images or photos of events or activities, names of people, etc.

Then, to put all these on slides, we can use time tabs (either year, month, and/or date) on each slide to keep track of the timeline in the presentation. Instead of squeezing the entire timeline on a single slide (which can be difficult to read), we divide them into multiple slides, making information on each slide more focused and more visible. This ensures better audience engagement during the presentation delivery.

Here is an example of a visual idea for a timeline using the method described above.

The slides mentioned above can easily be created on PowerPoint and Keynote softwares. Spend some time on your own exploring various options within your favorite presentation software, and you should be able to get it going very quickly.
